Quality Details
We couldn't be prouder of the final result, we have taken care of every last detail to create the right backpack to follow in your footsteps.
Interior laptop pocket: let's face it, one of the things we look for in a backpack is a specific space for our laptop, which has become a travel companion. Our backpack has it and we think it's perfectly integrated.
Outside pocket and side pockets: for greater convenience when it comes to organising your stuff, there's no need to remove the entire backpack to get what you're looking for, you put it in the outside pocket.
Zip and Selbi label: the perfect touch to make the set stand out, that extra touch of design and distinction that we always like to leave in our products.
All the prints are made with ethnic fabrics woven in a traditional way, following a process too laborious for a machine, so they are hand-woven by artisans following traditional methods that offer spectacular results. In this way, each of our backpacks is unique as the weaving pattern varies.
100% Vegan
The quality of a backpack should not be linked to the death of millions of animals. We are convinced of this, which is why we use hemp and organic cotton fabric in the composition of our backpacks; under no circumstances (nor have we ever intended to) do we use animal skins or animal glues.
This does not mean that we are giving up on touch and beauty, but rather that we have looked for alternatives to offer the same (or better) results, but with the clear conscience of knowing that we are contributing to putting an end to the animal fur business.
Eco-Friendly
Hemp is the oldest fibre used by mankind, but it began to be persecuted for its medicinal applications (by Pope Innocent VIII in the 15th century) and was gradually stopped being used in Europe despite all its benefits and properties. It continued to be manufactured in China and the USA, but lost ground to other fabrics due to low European demand. The years of persecution continued until modern history, where multinationals, with their interests and influences, mixed the drug aspect with the industrial aspect to justify the prohibition of hemp and facilitate the monopolies of furs, pesticides, paper from trees and oil.
We believe that hemp is the ideal material to make a backpack with the best properties and also being environmentally friendly. Our search has taken us to an area as remote as Nepal, where its people, far from external interests and influences, have remained connected to nature, and have continued to cultivate and use hemp, being the best in its treatment as they have never stopped using it. From the mountains of Nepal, their artisans are now becoming standard bearers for the return of the use of hemp, which would benefit the whole planet, and we have met them and we want to help them in their task.
Some of the properties of hemp:
- It needs less water consumption than other crops.
- It does not require the use of pesticides so it does not harm the land where it is grown and returns up to 60% of nutrients to the soil.
- One hectare of hemp can produce more than twice as much fibre as other crops with similar uses.
- Hemp fibre has anti-bacterial properties, is mould and odour resistant.
- Hemp fabrics are breathable, lightweight and durable, excellent in both hot and humid conditions.
Made in Nepal
One of Selbi's main objectives has always been to defend that behind our products there are decent working conditions, that's why we have chosen an artisan factory in Kathmandu and we have made sure that the workers are in the best possible conditions during the manufacturing of our backpacks.
In this part of the world they have never stopped working with hemp and we believe that they are the best in the world, because of their tradition and their way of understanding the world, still in connection with nature.
Moreover, by manufacturing in a country like Nepal, we contribute to the social and economic development of the country, giving job opportunities to its people and helping to promote the handicraft manufacturing they carry out with sustainable products.
